About

Hello and welcome to my ePortfolio, a tool I plan to use to document and store my future presentations, blogs, and professional accomplishments as I move through the Master’s of Nursing (MN) program.

I graduated from the University of Windsor in 2008 with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and immediately registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario. I have 15 years of nursing experience between home care, acute care and public health and the MN program is the next step for me as I look to build on an already fulfilling career. I started as a new graduate at Windsor Regional Hospital, Metropolitan Campus on a medical/surgical and orthopedic unit and concurrently worked in homecare.

I transitioned to Public Health in 2013 with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and have loved this field since. As a Public Health Nurse (PHN), I have worked in the Healthy Babies Healthy Children (HBHC) program, Vaccine Preventable Diseases, and I am currently positioned in the Healthy Schools program. As a school PHN in health promotion, I assist schools in identifying their own health promotion priorities and empower them to be successful in achieving healthy outcomes. Being a school nurse is one of the most fulfilling roles I have experienced as a nurse.

As a Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) member and past Executive Membership Officer for the Windsor-Essex Chapter, I have advocated for nursing, both provincially and federally. I have engaged MPs and MPPs through the organization of election debates, and participated in many RNAO events such as Take Your MP/MPP to Work days and Queens Park days. Nursing has a powerful and important voice and should be shared to make meaningful impacts within our communities.

On a personal note, I am married and a mother of 2 very active boys who keep me busy with hockey, soccer, and baseball. I love being active myself and being a role model for my children in this way. I play baseball and have developed a passion for running over the last few years. Although I have broken my nose twice playing ball, I chalk that up to determination. I also challenge myself year after year to run farther and faster…a goal I will be working towards for many years to come.
